In this video, you will get a clear explanation of the ISO Eco System. If you were going to seek certification you would hear the names of these different parties, who are they? What’s their role and where do they fit in?
If you’ve developed a management system and your ready to have it audited, the first step is to identify a certification body who will send out a team of auditors to audit you against each and every requirement in the standard.
When you are approaching a certification body, you’re going to have to find one that is accredited by the accreditation body in your region. That might be UKAS in the UK, or in Australia and New Zealand, JAS ANZ (The Joint Australian and New Zealand Accreditation Society).
They’re the organisation that comes out and accredits the different certification bodies in your region. This is done through an audit process, as well as auditing and evaluating their processes and procedures for delivering the certification services.
This ensures that there is a certain amount of integrity that the certification bodies take in how they plan and conduct your external certification processes.
You can follow this link to be taken to the JAZ ANZ website, where they have a register of all accredited certification bodies. If you're based in Australia or New Zealand, you can do a simple search there, put in your standard you want to be certified to, and it will bring up a list of all the certified organisations in your region.
ISO (the International Organisation for Standardization) are responsible for writing the standards. ISO has members drawn from different parts of the world. They form different committees to either write or review and revise different standards, such as ISO 9001 when it was revised in 2015.
The role of those committees and ISO as an organisation, is to write a standard that is clear on the terminology and is fit for purpose, so it can be applied in different parts of the world.
